He is Chairman of the Department of Radiology, and his practice includes general diagnostic radiology and interventional radiology. His passion for the role of imaging in medicine has led him to participate in public presentations and panel discussions that provide valuable education to the community about screening, imaging, and radiology procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Dr. Freeman earned his Bachelor of Arts at Williams College, majoring in chemistry and music. Following his radiology residency at Montefiore Medical Center, he returned to Columbia for a fellowship in Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology.

He ultimately served terms as vice-president and president of the Alumni Association. Throughout his participation, he emphasized engagement with students, spearheading programs bringing alumni and students together, participating in Home-Away-From-Home programs, shadowing experiences for students, and mentoring. In 2025, he was awarded the Gold Medal for Meritorious Service to VP&S.
