Kendall Thomas

Kendall Thomas is the Nash Professor of Law.  He joined the faculty of Columbia University as assistant professor in 1984.  Thomas was a central figure in the development of queer legal theory and, as co-editor of the groundbreaking Critical Race Theory: Key Writings that Founded the Movement (1996), one of the key architects of critical race theory.  Thomas’ writings on race, sexuality, gender, and law have appeared in several languages in law reviews, interdisciplinary scholarly journals, and essay collections.  

He is the director of the Studio for Law and Culture at Columbia University, where he has explored the uses of the arts and humanities as a platform for scholarly exploration at the intersection of law and culture.  Thomas is a past chair of the Law and Humanities and Jurisprudence sections of the Association of American Law Schools.
