Helen de Pinho
Helen de Pinho is a public health physician, educator, and academic leader whose work spans systems-thinking, maternal health, and health leadership development. At the Mailman School of Public Health, de Pinho leads curriculum innovations in systems-thinking and led the development of core DrPH courses in public health practice. De Pinho also serves as Associate Dean for Educational Programs, overseeing the implementation of the MPH and DrPH interdisciplinary core programs. Her research has focused on strengthening the health workforce to reduce maternal mortality in sub-Saharan Africa.
De Pinho has designed systems-thinking trainings for the World Health Organization and, with ICAP, has worked with global and local health leaders to enhance strategic leadership. Prior to Columbia, de Pinho was on faculty at the University of Cape Town and served as a clinician and health service manager in both rural and urban South Africa. Her work reflects her commitment to equity-driven public health education and the development of resilient health systems.
