George C. Dragomir

Dr. George C. Dragomir is a Lecturer in the Discipline of Mathematics and Director of Calculus in the Mathematics Department. He received his PhD in Mathematics from McMaster University. Dragomir teaches and supervises undergraduate students across a wide range of courses, from introductory classes to advanced topics, including interdisciplinary modeling and mathematics for machine learning. His research interests are in geometry and topology, with applications to machine learning, geometric data analysis, and complex networks.

At Columbia, he has developed new courses and initiatives that make mathematics more engaging, accessible, and connected to real-world problems. He co-founded and organizes programs such as the Columbia Mathematical Modeling Workshop and the Columbia Summer Research Experiences in Mathematical Modeling, which have become popular opportunities for students across the university to engage with applied mathematics. As Calculus Director, he works closely with instructors to support effective, inclusive teaching and leads pedagogical training for graduate students.

Through his teaching, research programs, and outreach efforts, Dragomir fosters a learning environment where students explore, collaborate, and grow with confidence.
